1. Brush your teeth before going to bed.

You must brush your teeth before going to bed to remove the plaque layer and hence avoid cavities. Even if you have had a really bad day, you need to do a quick brushing session. This is the most critical habit to ensure healthy teeth.

2. Brush properly

1. Bad Breath

Gum disease, cavities, oral cancer, dry mouth, and bacteria on the tongue are some of the dental problems that can cause bad breath. 5. Mouth Sores
There are several types of mouth sores and they can be pesky and bothersome. Unless a mouth sore lasts more than two weeks, it is usually nothing to worry about and will disappear on its own.
Common mouth sores are canker sores (aphthous ulcers) that occur inside the mouth and not on the lips. They are not contagious and can be triggered by many different causes. They are only a concern if they don’t go away after two weeks.

Tooth erosion is the loss of tooth structure and is caused by acid attacking the enamel. Tooth erosion signs and symptoms can range from sensitivity to more severe problems such as cracking. Tooth erosion is more common than people might think, but it can also be easily prevented.

Basically, tooth sensitivity involves experiencing pain or discomfort to your teeth from sweets, cold air, hot drinks, cold drinks or ice cream. It is very crucial to take care of your child’s teeth. Though your child’s first teeth are temporary, they are still susceptible to dental problems and can cause damage to permanent teeth.

Tips for good infant oral care:

  • Clean your infant’s gums:One should clean the infant’s gums twice a day- morning and evening. This cleaning should be done preferably after food to prevent bacteria buildup. To do this one should wrap a clean, damp gauze around a clean index finger and gently wipe your baby’s gums.
  • Clean the teeth with a toothbrush, once the child starts teething: Take soft bristle, easy grip brushes for infants and children up to 2 years. Use fluoride free toothpastes for children of this age.

Things to avoid:

  • Overexposure of fluoride: Avoid using fluoridated toothpastes at this age unless the drinking water of the area has minimum or no fluoride.
  • No sweets before sleeping: Don’t let the child eat anything sweet before sleeping, it can lead to development of caries
  • Milk bottle in the mouth during sleep: Leaving the baby to sleep with the milk bottle in the mouth can lead to nursing bottle caries, wherein the teeth can get affected with caries.

 

How to prevent tooth sensitivity?

Causes:

Tooth sensitivity usually occurs when the outer surface of the tooth (enamel)gets thinner. It may also be a result of gum recession, thus exposing the tooth structure below the gum level.

A shocking type of pain felt on eating hot, cold or sweet food or on drinking cold drinks or breathing in cold air. This pain does not last for more than a minute.

  1. Brush twice a day with a toothpaste with low level of abrasives. Prefer using special toothpastes made for tooth sensitivity.

  3. Follow a diet low in acidic foods and drinks can help prevent teeth sensitivity.

HOME REMEDIES FOR DENTAL PAIN AND PROBLEMS

We have always heard that one should brush twice a day or floss regularly, but despite of following these regimes many of us still face a lot of dental problems and pain.

The first step of action should always be visiting a dentist. But in the mean time we have few home remedies that will help in pain relief.

Tooth pain–Rinse your mouth with warm water and salt to clean the food debris stuck on the tooth. If any food is lodged between your teeth, avoid using a toothpick to remove it. Use a floss or an interdental brush preferably. Tooth pick can injure the gum tissues.

In case the pain does not subside, rinse with warm water and salt and rub some clove oil over the sore area for relief.

Lost filling – Rinse the tooth with warm salt water.

Bleeding gums–Use a tea bag, put it in water and squeeze out the excess water until the tea bag is damp. Press this over the bleeding area for instant relief.

Visit a dentist once in 6 months to avoid dental problems.

Cavities are the most common cause of tooth pain. But all tooth pains do not signify a cavity. Various types of dental pain denote various types of dental problems.

Let’s look at a few:

1)Sharp pains: Sharp pains when eating or drinking hot or cold foods might denote tooth sensitivity. (does not eliminate the possibility of a cavity). Sensitive teeth could have been developed due to receding gums or from thinning of the outer layer of the tooth.

2)Stabbing pain: Sharp and stabbing pain on chewing food could be due to a cavity or a cracked tooth. This tooth might need a filling or a root canal treatment depending upon the extent of damage.

3) Throbbing pain: Throbbing pain which lasts for more than 5 mins might denote an infection of the pulp and root canal of the tooth and might need a root canal treatment.

Sometimes the tooth pain might not be related to the tooth at all.

  • In cases like sinusitis, the upper teeth on both sides of your jaw pain. It is usually accompanied with nasal congestion. The area around sinuses pain on touch.
  • Pain near the ears radiating to the head and jaw may denote temporomandibular disorder. It can be caused due to excessive mouth opening especially during yawning, direct injury, or trauma to the jaw, by tooth grinding (bruxism), or by arthritis or cancer affecting the jaw.
  • Incomplete eruption of the wisdom tooth may also cause jaw pain.
